How to Hang a Shower Curtain on a Slanted Wall

As a landlord, I have been asked many times for advice on how to hang a shower curtain. Whether it is from someone that lives in my apartment building or from a tenant of one of the homes that I manage, this question comes up quite often, and there are many different ways to accomplish this task.

How to Hang a Shower Curtain on a Slanted Wall

Before we talk about the actual hanging of the curtain, let’s first discuss why you need to do this. In older homes, walls were not as slanted as they are now. In newer homes, the walls are slanted to allow water to run down the drain easier after using the shower.

Since a regular shower curtain needs to be hung about one foot below the showerhead, they will not stay in place on a wall that is not slanted. So, this article is for you. You will learn how to hang a shower curtain on a slanted wall with just one simple trick!

Step to Follow on How to Hang a Shower Curtain on a Slanted Wall

Step One: Determine

First, determine how long your wall is and how high you need your shower curtain to hang. A good guideline for the length is to reach from about a third of the way up the tub or shower enclosure to just below the faucet. A couple of extra inches will be helpful, as this will allow for any unevenness in your floor and the movement of the curtain as it is pulled across it’s rod.

If the shower enclosure has only one slanted wall, you will have to measure the height of its bottom. If it’s higher than most conventional shower curtains are long, you may need to buy extra length so that the top of the curtain sits at about waist level for a person standing in the tub or shower.

If there are two walls, then you will need to measure the distance between them. For example, the top of your shower curtain should reach from about a third of the way up one wall to two-thirds of the way up another, with extra length added for hanging at waist level.

Step Two: Mark

If the tub or shower enclosure has only one slanted wall, you will need to mark the position of two holes using a tape measure for where the shower curtain rod should be. The first hole should be about a third up from the floor and another about two-thirds up. If your curtain doesn’t have rings that will fit through these holes, then use enough tape to mark the holes.

Your Shower Curtain to Hang

If it has rings, measure the distance between them and mark holes at that width across the top of the wall, with the first hole about a third up and the second about two-thirds up. Please make sure that there are at least 4 inches between them for your curtain to hang in

If the tub or shower enclosure has two slanted walls, you will need to measure or mark reinforced holes where the corners of your shower curtain should be attached to the walls. The corners of your shower curtain should be about two-thirds up one wall and one-third up the other, with the first hole’s position determined by measuring from the floor to about a third of the way up.

Step Three: Drill

If the tub or shower enclosure has only one slanted wall, then put several holes in each marked position. This will allow for unevenness in your floor and movement of your fabric when it is hung.

If this wall does not have any storage space behind it, punch all the holes at once using a hammer and nail, inserting the nails all the way through, then pulling them out the other side. If there is storage space behind it and you don’t want to sacrifice your hanging space, drill holes at least every 12 inches and screw in screws indicated on the other side.

These will support two rows of curtain rings that go around the curtain rod. If your tub or shower enclosure has two slanted walls, drill a curtain hole every 4 inches in the corners of your fabric using a hole punch. Make sure that these are at an equal height from the floor.

Use a Tension Rod if You Need Extra Length

Step Four: Hang

Hang the shower curtain rod by hooking it over one side of your tub or bathroom with shower enclosure, then pulling it across to the other side. Use a tension rod if you need extra length for your curtain to hang at waist level. Hook one end of the curtain over the top hole on each wall and use rings, hooks, or loop tape to do this.

Use more rings, shower hooks, or loop tape to secure the corners where your fabric is hung. Hang a bath mat over the outside of your curtain to keep it from touching any wet surfaces and ensure that water drips onto the floor rather than onto your tub or shower enclosure.

If this is impossible, wrap your curtain around the shower tension rod so that it is inside out, reducing the amount of moisture absorbed by the fabric. These steps should help you in learning how to hang a shower curtain on a slanted wall.

Step Five: Maintain

Hang your shower curtain so that it reaches about waist level for a person standing in the tub or shower. If you have hung curtain rod clip rings, hooks, or tape around the edge of your fabric to keep it from contacting wet surfaces all the way around, then remove these when you are done taking a bath or shower.

Do not expose this fabric to bleach or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the material and make it less waterproof. If you need to clean your curtain without exposing it to any of these items, then hang it outside and hose it down with water and a drop of dish soap.

Conclusion

The best way to hang a shower curtain on that slanted wall is by using suction cups. Suction cups are great for holding up heavy objects, and they’re straightforward to install too! In addition, they come with the installed adhesive, which means you can just peel off the back liner and stick them right onto your tile or frameless glass shower door.

You’ll want to make sure there’s space between each cup, so it will be able to hold more weight evenly across all of the suction. Finally, the conclusion paragraph is informative and provides information on how to hang a shower curtain on a slanted wall.
